What is a rebuy?

A rebuy is a tournament where you can buy more chips for a fee. You may rebuy any time your stack is on or below your starting stack. The rebuy period will be up to the first break.

What is an add-on?

During the first break, players will be able to perform an add-on for more chips. An add-on allows a player to purchase even more chips for a fee, but without the same restrictions as a rebuy. Some tournaments will offer double and triple add-ons for double and triple the chips!

How do I know if rebuys and add-ons are allowed?

You will know if a tournament is a rebuy tournament when the name includes “rebuy”. The main lobby will display the number of rebuys and add-ons allowed in the summary area, and a full description will appear in the tournament lobby.

Rebuy/add-on strategy

Rebuy tournaments bring out the maniacs of poker! Many players will play extremely loose, willing to gamble on just about any two cardsbecause they have the insurance policy of being able to purchase more chips should they lose their stacks with aggressive play.To win a rebuy tournament you must play aggressive but smart poker. The main goal early in the tournament is to build your stack and you will see a lot of raising and all-in play during the rebuy period. You must be willing to go all-in in coin flip situations if you have the chance of doubling or tripling your stack. You cannot be passive, playing strictly odds-based poker, because you will quickly find that all of the aggressive players around you have built up huge stacks which will be nearly impossible to overcome. To make it to the final table with any chance to win, it is critical to mix up your play and to take your chances to build your stack. Once the rebuy period is over, go back to your normal tournament strategy and playing style. If an ad -on is offered at this point, you should generally always take advantage of it unless you are a massive chip leader. Almost all of the players in the tournament will take the add-on and you can quickly find yourself at a disadvantage if you don’t.
